My winner was the Lowchen, who moved and showed well and had the gay, lively temperament and lively outlook that is so typical of the breed. Our unanimous choice for the overall winner was the lovely Afghan Hound who had a lovely head and expression, good overall type, and moved out freely.
I WAS HONOURED TO HAVE BEEN ASKED TO JUDGE KENT SUPER DOG, ORGANISED BY THE HARD WORKING SECRETARY, HEATHER TAYLOR, AND THE COMMITTEE, OF DOVER & DEAL CANINE SOCIETY, HELD IN THE BALLROOM OF MARGATE'S WINTER GARDENS.
THIS EVENT ALWAYS HAS A SPECIAL ATMOSPHERE, WITH A SELECTION OF SUPERB DOGS, GOOD FOOD AND GREAT COMPANY.
MY CO-JUDGES WERE BRENDA BANBURY AND CHRIS QUANTRELL. AS THE SAYING GOES 'SAVING THE BEST TILL LAST', AS I WAS DRAWN TO JUDGE THE VETERANS, AND WHAT A GREAT SELECTION AND QUALITY OF DOGS I HAD THE PRIVILEDGE TO GO OVER. OF THOSE PRESENT, ANGIER'S AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD, LOUIS, HOLMAN'S POMERANIAN, APOLLO, AND HILL'S AFGHAN HOUND, MEME, THE AUSTRALIAN WAS UNFORTUNATE TO MEET THE EVENTUAL WINNER IN THE SECOND ROUND. THE DELIGHTFUL POM WON THROUGH TO THE FINAL ROUND. MY WINNER WAS THE AFGHAN, 8 1/2 YEARS OLD, LOVELY REPRESENTATION OF THE BREED, IN FULL BLOOM, PRESENTED TO PERFECTION AND JUST FLOWED AROUND THE RED, CARPETED RING.
BY MAJORITY DECISION, THE AFGHAN WENT BEST KENT SUPER DOG 2008.
MANY THANKS TO ALL FOR SUCH AN ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
